Kansas FosterĀ & Adoptive Parent Association
"What you choose to do today will make a
lasting difference in the life of a child."
Our Mission
To empower, support and advocate for Kansas families by promoting safety, permanency, and well-being of our children.
Our Purpose
To support foster and adoptive families, relatives or caregivers who share parenting with the birth family while seeking to find permanence, safety, and stability for the child. These individuals are willing to provide a permanent connection for the child as the child reunifies with the birth family. They play an active role in linking the child to their past as well as guiding their future.

Quarterly Board Meetings KFAPA
meetings are open to the public. Anyone interested in the child
welfare system of the state of Kansas is invited to attend. Copies of
the bylaws and meeting minutes are available on the "About Us" page. They may
also be obtained by contacting KFAPA at PO Box, 273, Canton, KS 67428. Check the "News" page for the next meeting date.
KFAPA is pleased to announce that our proposal to present at the 2011 Governor's Conference on the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect has been accepted. A panel of participants will share with the audience on the topic "It Takes A Team To Raise a Child." This presentation will take place on November 4, 2011 in Topeka, Kansas.
KFAPA has been invited to send a panel to present at the 2011 Kansas Child Welfare Law Judicial Summit. The KFAPA panel will be the very first group to present at the Summit, right after Chief Justice Nuss speaks. This event will take place in September in Topeka. The audience will be about 130 stakeholders in the child welfare system (CINC judges, CINC prosecutors, GALs, court services officers, SRS reps, private providers, foster parents, CASA and citizen review board reps, and reps from mental health, education, medical community, law enforcement, and community development disability organizations.) The panel will discuss what foster parents need from those in “the system” and how to better engage foster parents.
KFAPA is hosting a Parent Summit on October 1, 2011. This is an invitation only event where placement agencies, families and others in the Child Welfare System of Kansas sit down to discuss strengths and gaps in the system and make recommendations for improvement. The following four areas will be reviewed: the child welfare team, the court system, training, and system strengths and gaps.
Healthy Life Choices Project
The Kansas Foster and Adoptive Parent Association is pleased to announce a partnership with the Children’s Alliance of Kansas in the development of a training for families about healthy relationships. This curriculum is part of the Children’s Alliance Healthy Life Choices Project, a five year grant. The ultimate goals of this project are to delay sexual activity of children ages 10-15 and reduce teen pregnancy.
Every foster/adoptive parent will be eligible for this training. Every home that completes the course will receive a free membership to KFAPA. The What’s Happening To My Body books will be given to foster parents who start the course who have children ages 10-15. The expected release date of the training is October 2011.
In addition to free KFAPA membership, the children working through the course with their parents will be eligible, upon completion of the course, to win prizes. These prizes will range from Wal-Mart gift cards to i-pods, etc.
Spread the news about this exciting opportunity for the families of Kansas!
